Yugi Moto/Yuugi Mutou is a highschool student that learned to duel from his grandpa. He is the best duelest in the world, and is named so after winning the Duelest Kingdom contest that was hosted by Pegasus. His best friend seems to be Joey, but his other friends include Téa and Tristan. He possesses the Millenium puzzle; his grandpa gave it to him. It is from ancient Egypt and contains mystical powers. Further in the anime we learn the Millenium Puzzles true powers. It allows Yugi to do the mind shuffle with Yami Yugi, his counter part, in order to beat Pegasus' Millenium eye, during the final battle between them.
